My Story
Hello! I’m Hanna Manning Riviere, currently honored to represent Mrs. Atlanta in the Mrs. Georgia America pageant. Though I recently moved to Atlanta from Syracuse, New York, my journey has been shaped by a deep commitment to education, empowerment, and community service that spans many years and places.
Before arriving in Georgia, I worked as a professor at Syracuse University’s College of Professional Studies, teaching a first-year seminar focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. My students were returning learners, active-duty soldiers, and veterans—people overcoming unique challenges to pursue their education. This experience reinforced my belief that education is the most powerful tool we have; possessions can be taken away, but knowledge remains forever.
Serving My Community
My passion for service extends beyond the classroom. I have hosted fundraisers for organizations supporting survivors of domestic violence, food pantries, animal shelters, and impoverished communities in Egypt. Volunteering has also been a vital part of my life—from teaching English at Syracuse University’s English Language Institute to hosting language exchanges online for women in Colombia, Brazil, and Egypt. These connections remind me daily of the universal power of education and communication to uplift and unite.
Before moving to Atlanta last year, I wanted to give back to the community that raised me and to an organization that supported me during a difficult time in my life. I organized a donation drive for Vera House, a shelter and resource center for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Syracuse. Thanks to generous individual and corporate donors, including top contributors Centellian24 and Beekman 1802, we collected nearly $1,000 worth of essential products. This final act of kindness in my hometown was a heartfelt way to honor the support I received and to help others find hope and healing.
During college, I was deeply involved in advocacy and cultural awareness. I served on the executive boards of the SUNY Potsdam Spanish Club, promoting language and cultural exchange, and It’s On Us, a movement to end sexual violence on campuses. I also volunteered with Renewal House to support survivors of relationship violence. These experiences taught me the importance of community, compassion, and standing up for those whose voices need to be heard.
More Than Money
My academic path was not without challenges. In high school, I struggled due to ADHD, severe depression, and an undiagnosed thyroid condition. Once these were addressed, I was able to thrive academically, earning a BA in Spanish and Business Administration from SUNY Potsdam and an MBA in Business Analytics from Utica University. My journey underscores that barriers to education are often complex. Beyond finances, health and mental wellness play critical roles.
This understanding fuels my platform: expanding opportunities for women’s education in developing countries. I have heard countless stories of girls and women denied education due to financial hardship, health issues, lack of sanitary products, and more. My goal is to provide resources, raise awareness, and inspire motivation so every woman and girl can pursue their education without these obstacles.
Power in Pageantry
Pageantry has given me a powerful platform to share this mission, connect with inspiring women, and grow as a leader and advocate. I believe every step we take together brings us closer to a world where education is truly accessible for all.
Thank you for joining me on this journey to empower women through education. Because when women rise, communities flourish.
With hope and determination,
Hanna Manning Riviere - Mrs. Atlanta
